Dry Ginger Powder
Dry ginger is used in Ayurveda for centuries. This powder is extracted from the ginger roots which are dried. This light yellow-brownish powder has a strong aroma and a pungent flavor. This powder can be stored for about one year. Dry ginger powder is also called ‘sonth’. This powder when added to curries, spices and stews adds flavor to it. This can be added to masala chai, rajma and chhole recipes.
Dry ginger has an anti-inflammatory property which helps to relieve upset stomach, thus eliminating excess gas from intestinal tracts and stimulating digestion of food. Dry ginger, when used daily is known to improve metabolism by burning excess fat and thus, helping to lose weight. This powder is well-known for preventing motion and morning sickness in pregnant woman. A tea spoon of dry ginger when mixed with a cup of water soothes the stomach of a pregnant woman. Dry ginger provides relief during common cold. A cup of lukewarm water mixed in with a tea spoon of dry ginger is very effective during common cold. Dry ginger, no wonder is a master of all fields starting from medicinal to culinary to cosmetic. A smooth paste made out of mixing dry ginger powder, milk and rosemary or lavender essential oil when applied to face for 15-20 minutes rejuvenates the skin and makes it fresh and youthful.
